National Team Quizzing Festival
The 2012 National Team Quiz Festival will take place at The Counting House on Saturday 9th June.
As usual, the day's fun and games will kick off at 11.00 with our unique individual "Rally Quiz", in which speed & tactics can be as important as knowledge.
This was won last year by Kevin Ashman.
A buffet lunch will then served, during which a picture quiz will be played.
After lunch, the afternoon will begin with the traditional showpiece "North v South" challenge between the winners of the 2010/11 President's Cup competition (Sussex) and a representative team from the Merseyside Quiz Leagues, for the Don Bissett Memorial Cup.
Sussex will be looking to make it three in a row.
This will be followed by a programme of freshly-written team quizzes including, for the very first time in QLL's history, a pairs quiz.
And, just to make it more interesting, anyone finishing in the top 20 of the Rally Quiz may not form a pair with anyone else who finished in the top 20 of the Rally Quiz, nor with any of the event organisers...
Prizes will awarded throughout the day
The cost of entry is £22 per person.
Please register here.
History
The National Team Quiz Festival is an annual quiz event that takes place after the regular season for most quiz leagues has finished.
It is an all-day event held on a Saturday in early June.
The event features the North v South match for the Don Bissett Memorial Cup.
In 2005 the Rally Quiz was introduced, taking place on the morning of the competition.
This consists of a 3-part individual written quiz against the clock.
The afternoon includes friendly quizzes, normally with teams drawn on the day, and forms a good introduction to the game for new players.
A report of the 2011 NTQF is available here.

North v South Challenge for the Don Bissett Memorial Cup
The origins of the Quiz League of London lie is a challenge event between quizzers from London and the North, which took place at the Manor Arms in Clapham (see our history).
This became an annual challenge match which formed part of a National Team Quizzing Festival.
During the 1990s, the event was held alternately in London and the North-West, with the South represented by a select team from the South London Quiz League.
A trophy was introduced in 1996.
Since the turn of the century, the event has always been held in London.
The South has been represented by the winners of the QLL’s President’s Cup.
The North has been represented by the winners of the Merseyside Quiz Leagues President’s Trophy (when available) or by a select MQL team.
On a couple of occasions, the North were unable to field a team, and the representatives of the South was challenged by other teams from the President’s Cup.
The trophy introduced in 1996 was won by the Wirrall Quiz League representing the North.
They won the right to name the trophy, and chose to call it the Don Bissett Memorial Cup.
Don Bissett, who had died suddenly earlier that year, was the Founding Chairman of the Wirrall Quiz League, and had been Chairman of the Merseyside Quiz Leagues since 1984.
