QLL's annual Charity Quiz Night will take place on the evening of Tuesday 16 March 2010 at the Counting House, 50, Cornhill, London, EC3V 3PD. The event will start at 19.30 for 20.00 and wind up around 22.00.
This year, we will be supporting the Talking Newspaper Association UK (TNAUK) which allows the visually-impaired access to a wide range of newspapers, magazines and other publications otherwise unavaliable to them.
For those new to the event, it features a table quiz of 10 rounds of 8 questions for teams of four players (conferring permitted on all questions). There will be a raffle for the benefit of TNAUK.
To register, please complete a form (downloadable via the link below) and post it to Richard Jones at the address at the top of the form, with a cheque in the sum of £30 (the minimum donation requested to reserve a table), payable to "The Quiz League of London". Please ensure that your form includes four confirmed players and is accompanied by a cheque - a place will not be reserved otherwise.
Due to space limitations at the venue, capacity is limited to 20 tables and there are only a few tables left, so please send in your form & cheque without delay to secure a place.

There ARE bodies who make money from QLL activities - charities!
When we got under way in the early 90's we resolved that we quiz players were the fortunate ones and that we would aim to help, on a regular basis, those less fortunate than ourselves. So we have always set aside one of our Tuesday quizzing nights - it's become the first Tuesday in February - for an event which contributes to a charity. Over the years we've helped a hospice, a hospital and one of the major international charities and had a lot of fun whilst doing it.
We stage the event as a table quiz (a bit like one of those quiz nights staged in pubs) and try to make it a social as well as a competitive event. In fact it's several competitions in one. We have an "elite" group, the top QLL sides who are playing for the Charity Shield, but we also give awards to the best placed side from Division Two, from the guest teams & from other charities who support the event. There is also a wooden spoon trophy for the least successful!
The evening is played on a handicap basis with start scores allocated to players on a scale of 1 for a Div 1 player to four points for a novice. This keeps all the teams in the game right to the tenth round. We're not sure we get this system exactly right, as in the last two years, it has let in the "dark horse" sides. However, as one of them joined QLL, all turned out well in the end.
We've room for guest teams (4 to a table, £30 per team to enter) and any number of volunteers to help. We're always on the look out for quality prizes to raffle and corporate donors get as much recognition or publicity as they wish.
QLL would like to thank all the scores of helpers who over the years have made this a memorable event and particularly Peter Deakin and Charles Williams of the Warrington QL who have set such splendid questions.
