Results 2007-2008 League Week 11

There were four high scoring games in Division I, with 6 teams posting scores of 50 or more. In the top of the table clash Broken Hearts held on to see off a strong challenge from Nomads and remain in first place. All eight players made double figures, while I don't remember a higher aggregate score than the match's 107 points. Barb also had the unfortunate distinction of scoring 50 and losing, as Atletico recovered in the last round to take the game on the last question. This was another game with all the players in double figures. There was also a close game at the Hand & Shears, where Old Itonians held on to their early lead to record a narrow win over Aldersgate. In the other game Allsorts managed a win against Telstars, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Top scorers in the Division were Fred Filby of Old Itonians and Gavin Fuller of Allsorts, both with 17 points

There was also a clash between the top two in Division II. A very close game, which came down to the last pair of questions, saw Waterloo Sunset retain their 100% record at the expense of Pineapple. Gray Monks survived a late surge by Rosslyn Park to move into second place, while Belly overwhelmed a two man London Scottish, despite Alastair McLaggan's best of the evening 25 points for London Scottish. In the Royal Oak derby Accrington Cylindricals had a comfortable victory over Ovalytes.

As we approach Christmas, there seems to be little to stop Broken Hearts retaining their title, and they are already assured a place in the top half for the end of season play-offs. Second placed Old Itonians and joint third Atletico and Nomads seem most likely to join them, but Allsorts, currently in the unfamiliar position of the bottom half of the table, and possibly Aldersgate could yet displace one or more of them. Telstars appear doomed at the bottom, barring a dramatic reversal of fortune in the New Year, but Barb could yet escape, although they will be in the relegation end of the play-offs. The play-off position in Division II is already settled, as regardless of January results, Waterloo Sunset, Gray Monks, Pineapple and Belly will be contesting promotion, while Rosslyn Park, Ovalytes, Accrington Cylindricals and London Scottish will fight out the minor places. Waterloo Sunset seem well set to return to Division I, but any of the other three could join them.
