Leaders Nomads stay top after their victory over Gray Monks. All four Nomads were in double figures, but their defeat means Gray Monks are relegated. Second placed Broken Hearts narrowed the gap to three points as they gathered a full house bonus point in their win against Atletico, who also earned a full house bonus. All four Broken Hearts players were in double figures. Nomads need to avoid defeat in their final match if they are to take the title and deny the Broken Hearts a hat trick. A tense struggle at the Pineapple, where both the home team and Barb were battling to avoid relegation. Pineapple came out on top, gaining a full house bonus on the way, to survive for another season in Division I, but even with a bonus point and Donald Yule's 20 points, Barb's defeat means they go down. Another very tight game at the One Tun, with Old Itonians beating Allsorts by a point. Allsorts gained a narrow defeat bonus, and Gavin Fuller's 20 points included a full house, his third of the season.
The top two met In Division II, secure in the knowledge that they were both already promoted. Just as well for Belly, as Pericardium beat them comprehensively, to avenge their only defeat of the season. A close game at the Royal Oak saw Mealy Bugs come out on top, but Accrington Cylindricals claimed bonus points for both a narrow defeat and a full house. Despite losing round 2 by 10-2, Ovalytes overall were too strong for Rosslyn park, while Telstars had a comfortable win against London Scottish. The best score of the night was achieved by David Stainer of Pericardium, with 23 points.
Brain of London 2009
Don't forget that the qualifying round for this year's competition takes place after the League games next Tuesday. Question sets will be available at all 8 home venues (Calthorpe Arms, Carpenters Arms, Five Bells, Hand & Shears, Pineapple, Rosslyn Pak, Royal Oak & Triple Crown). If your team doesn't have a game on Tuesday, just go along to whichever of these venues is most convenient. The preliminary rounds (ie rounds 1,2 and semi-final) will take place at Rosslyn park on Tuesday 23 March.
All-London Cup 2009
The first round of the Cup will take place on Tuesday 10 March. As last year we will be running a Plate competition for those going out in their first Cup game. If you are aware of any guest teams who would like to take part, or if any of our teams with larger squads would like to enter two teams, could you please let me know as soon as possible. The Cup Final, together with the Final of the Brain of London, will take place at the Counting House on Tuesday 21 April.
