Results 2009-2010 League Week 02

Nowhere else to begin the round-up but at the Hand and Shears, where Allsorts scored a whopping 64 in their bonus-point defeat of Waterloo Sunset. Gavin Fuller and Kevin Ashman both notched full houses, Gavin’s 24 being the top score of the week, two ahead of his team-mate. With Allsorts having a bye on Week One, Old Itonians are the only team with two wins out of two (and maximum points) after they beat Telstars 46-39, Fred Filby again passing the 20 mark. Broken Hearts get the week’s grouping prize, all four players notching between 13 and 15 in a bonus-point win over Barb. Nomads also shared it about a bit in defeating a three-man Five Bells team, all four players being in double figures, and a bonus point arriving early on. Mick Lancaster scored 20 in a losing cause. Pericardium shot 31 on the back nine to pull out of a tight spot against Pineapple, David Stainer and Nic Paul both scoring 17.

Peter Ediss took the individual honours in Division Two, with 21 and a full house in Gray Monks’ defeat of London Scottish; Gray Monks secured a last-gasp bonus point in Round 8. The Banana Splits and Eclectics are two-out-of-two; the former beating Outcasts, the latter overcoming Wharfside with the aid of 19 from Donald Yule. Accies got the better of Sons of the Dessert at the Crown, despite Stuart Solomons’ 19, while Rosslyn Park won a tight encounter at the Pineapple, Mealy Bugs coming closer than anyone this week to a narrow-defeat bonus point.

Five ‘round houses’ this week, all on different rounds. Teams going first won 6 of the 10 games.

Allsorts v Broken Hearts looks to be the pick of Week Three, while Eclectics’ unbeaten record will be tested when they host the Gray Monks in Division Two’s top game. Delivery of questions will again be by hand, the post being what it is. I'd be grateful for people who can take delivery of a set on Monday or Tuesday in central London to make themselves known, particularly if you're going to be at one of the less central venues – will make things a lot easier for our elite delivery force.

Can I ask everyone to make sure they fill in all the appropriate boxes on the scoresheet – particularly who went first at the top and the friendly section at the bottom. I know it’s only a friendly, but knowing the scores helps us to help the setters make friendlies better. Both the friendlies we've played so far have produced average combined match scores of just over 90 in Division One, and about 74 in Division Two, according to the results we do have.
