Results 2009-2010 League Week 06

Pericardium press on, and are now the only unbeaten team in Division One following a hefty win over Telstars. A bonus point further consolidates their position at the top of the league. Allsorts pulled clear of Atletico in the latter stages of the game at the Five Bells, though Atletico got the 'roundhouse' bonus point. Old Itonians hammered Nomads – only a 12-point margin, but it felt like more – and are now second in the table, their roundhouse point keeping them clear of Broken Hearts. The latter top-scored this week with 64, and had all four players in double figures and a season-high three roundhouses in their win against a short-handed Pineapple. Barb picked up their first win, with a 45-37 victory over Waterloo Sunset. As regards top-scores, Kevin Ashman of Allsorts and Olav Bjortomt of Broken Hearts both notched 21, one ahead of the consistently impressive Old Itonian, Fred Filby.

The leaders also kept up the charge in Division Two, as The Banana Splits triumphed over Sons of the Dessert in the 'puddings derby' at the Sheephaven. Gray Monks are chasing hard, however, and won a high-scoring encounter at Rosslyn Park. Both teams took a roundhouse bonus point: Rosslyn Park had all four players in double figures, and the visitors only failed to match that by one point. Accies beat a three-man Wharfside (despite 20 from Colin Kidd, the week's top score), and Outcasts won at a similarly short-handed London Scottish. Last but not least, Ovalytes produced a good team performance to win at a seemingly subdued Eclectics. Peter Ediss of Gray Monks was top-scorer on a four-man team, with 17.

The maths bit Eight wins by teams going first this week. Averages were 89.6 (51.2 going first, 38.4 going second) in Division One, and 75.0 (42.2/32.8). This suggests a bit of a disparity between teams going first and going second, but given the small sample size I'm not sure it's significant. Round 1 was the toughest, Round 3 the easiest. The friendly certainly seems to have got people talking - aggregates were a shade below 70 in Div 1 and just over 60 in Div 2.
