Results 2009-2010 League Week 13

Having fallen from the top spot courtesy of their defeat to the Sunsets just before the festive break, Pericardium launched a counter-coup at the first possible opportunity, resuming top spot with a 50-46 victory over Nomads. David Stainer's division-topping 20 was the key contribution, not least because by answering the last question for two points, he denied Nomads their second bonus point of the evening. How important will that point be come the end of the season? Probably not very, but we'll see. Broken Hearts kept up the pressure at the top of the table, avenging their opening day defeat to Telstars with a 53-36 win. Your correspondent's former Animals team-mate Josh Mandel, in his first league game for three years, scored 18 for Telstars; Mark Grant top-scored with 17 for the BH. Atletico cemented fourth place with a bonus-point win over Barb, led by the ever-impressive Robert Willer's 19. Old Itonians also secured a bonus point (and had four double-figure hauls) in their defeat of three-man Five Bells, while Neil Cole's 16 was the main contribution in Pineapple's win over Waterloo Sunset.

The top of the table clash in Division Two was won decisively by Gray Monks, and they now look strong favourites for promotion. Though their victims on this occasion, The Banana Splits, have an identical record of ten wins and two defeats, Gray Monks' skill in picking up bonus points (seven to one so far), is making the difference. Rosslyn Park stay in third, despite a defeat to Sons of the Dessert, who secured the division's only full-house bonus point, and had all four players in double figures. Accies squeaked past Outcasts 40-38 at the Fitzroy, while back at the Royal Oak, their co-tenants Ovalytes had a more comfortable victory, beating London Scottish 45-20. Top scorer in the division was Hugh Brady, whose return of 20 led the Mealy Bugs to victory in their mid-table clash against Eclectics.
