Results 2009-2010 League Week 19

It was a week to go first in Division One, with the teams who did so gaining four comfortable wins and a draw. All four of those games arguably went with form, mind. Pericardium stay top after a 54-41 victory over a three-man Allsorts team. Notable in this game was Ken Emond top-scoring for the Allsorts, ahead of some pair of clowns called Ashman and Fuller. Cue much head-scratching as to whether it had happened before. Buoyed by their collective namecheck in Monday's Times 2 Quiz, the Broken Hearts kept up the pressure, with a similar margin of victory over Atletico. Neither of the leading pair managed a round-house bonus point, however, and with things looking so tight between them, these points could prove crucial. Nomads beat Telstars, with all four in double figures. Both sides scored a round-house in this game. Nomads now look booked for third – in theory they can still retain their title, but it would require some unusual results for the top two. Old Itonians had the week's biggest winning margin, in the One Tun derby against Barb, though the losers did outdo their opponents by getting a round-house. Fred Filby's 23 was the week's top score. Meanwhile, Pineapple and Five Bells fought out a tense 39-all draw in NW5, Mick Lancaster doing the heavy lifting for the visitors with 22.

Things panned out slightly differently in Division Two, with three wins going second. One of those three went to leader Gray Monks, who beat Mealy Bugs in a game that finished with a five-point margin, but by all accounts felt a lot tighter. Again, the losers got a round-house point, the winners did not. Gray Monks now need only one mor ewin and one more bonus point to clinch the divisional title. Second-placed Banana Splits had the week off, so Eclectics closed the gap on them by beating Sons of the Dessert. Fresh from their bumper score last week, Accies triumphed in the Royal Oak derby against Ovalytes, while Rosslyn Park won the battle of the south-west-London rugby clubs against London Scottish. Outcasts picked up their second consecutive win, seeing off Wharfside, thanks in no small part to Mike Chappell's division-high 19.
