Results 2009-2010 League Week 20

Broken Hearts now look set to win the QLL for the third time in four years after they produced a near-faultless performance to beat challengers Pericardium in the game that will almost certainly decide this year's title. Captain Jesse Honey led the way with 21 and a full house – his three team-mates also scored double figures – while both sides took a round-house bonus. One win from their two remaining games will secure BH the championship, while a win in their last game next week will secure Pericardium second place. Nomads (also four in double figures) look favourites for third, after their win over Allsorts, and can secure this position with a result at Atletico this week. Speaking of whom, the Streatham derby saw Five Bells keep the scoreline close, though Willer's men never looked like losing, all notching 10+ and securing a bonus point in their 48-44 win. Old Itonians kept up the pressure on Atletico with a 49-40 win over Waterloo Sunset. The only position to be decided already is that of Telstars, whose defeat of Barb put them in a geostationary seventh, Barb having to content themselves with a round-house. Pending league reorganisation, Waterloo Sunset and Five Bells will be playing in the second tier next year.

Gray Monks must wait another week to be crowned champions of Division Two, after Sons of the Dessert produced a strong late fightback to take the last round 8-5 and the game 46-45. The Sons also gained a round-house bonus, while the Brothers took a point for a close defeat. This point, together with The Banana Splits' 44-all draw at Eclectics, means the Gray Monks can only be denied the title if they take nothing from their last two games and the Splits take five points from both. Donald Yule and Gill Woon produced 17 each for their respective teams at the Hand & Shears, and again, a last-round fightback (8-4) brought the hosts back into it. Rosslyn Park (Jim Willerton 17) overtake Eclectics and move into third after a narrow win at Accies (John McDonnell 17), yet another last-round comeback by the hosts proving sufficient only for a close-defeat bonus point. The Royal Oak's other tenants, Ovalytes, had the better of an equally narrow scoreline, defeating Outcasts 40-38, while Mealy Bugs had a rather wider victory over Wharfside. As you may have guessed from the fact that I've mentioned it four times, 17 was the division's top score.
