The Summer Friendly League is a new competition introduced by The Quiz League of London in 2009. It begins in June and runs for about 10 weeks.
There will be one division and three teams at each venue on a match night. The aim is for new teams to become part of The Quiz League of London by making this an easy competition in which to participate.
Differences
The normal QLL rules within matches will apply, but there will be some differences.
- Three teams at each venue will play a round-robin where the 'non-playing' team officiates.
- Two matches, both counting towards league position per team per match night.
- Rules will be confirmed prior to the start of the Summer Quiz League.
That means...
- No need to provide scorers or time-keepers as this is done by another team.
- Never more than four people per team will be required for a match night.
- Matches will start at 8 p.m. to accommodate three fixtures per match night.
- No need to provide friendly quizzes as all matches will be competitive.
Also:
- Players will not be required to seek committee approval to switch teams.
- New teams will not need to provide a venue if they don't want to.
- Teams will not be required to provide food.
- The Summer Quiz League will be free to enter!
Summer Quiz League matches are expected to take place in the more relaxed way that goes with the season. In warm and dry weather, we hope that some matches can be played outdoors.
Quizzes
The Summer Quiz League is free to enter, but will be set internally and needs a minimum of 30 quizzes to be used in the matches. Many have already been written, but we would like participating teams to write sets to be played on match nights. The suggestion is for teams with existing league players and experience in setting to contribute two quizzes, and for other and new teams to provide one quiz.
Quiz setting guidance is available on the website, and the idea is that the quizzes should be welcoming to new teams and enjoyable for existing teams.
